You’ve just purchased or are lucky to have been gifted some gorgeous crystals or crystal jewellery. Did you know that before using or wearing your crystals, that they should each be cleansed? The idea is to remove any transferred vibrations that the crystal has picked up from the mining process, packaging, handling, transportation or whilst sitting on display in the store waiting for a buyer. Here is a simple guide on how to cleanse and charge your crystals to get the most from them.
After cleansing your crystals for the first time, you should take the time to program and activate your crystal, directing the desired energy you require for your specific purpose or outcome.
Have you ever seen or sensed vibrations from an unhappy, dusty or weary crystal? Over time, using your crystals, wearing them or leaving them sitting around your home, will change their energy. This is why it is important to adopt healthy practice of regularly cleansing your crystals to remove and unwanted vibrations and energy build up.
Your crystals will also love recharging/energising, to give back to you their maximum healing benefits and positive energy.
There are many ways to cleanse and recharge your crystals. Scattered over the internet, you will find various rituals and suggested times needed to cleanse and recharge. The below is a guide of what I find to be most effective. Always remember to go with what feels best for you and discern the appropriate amount of time needed for cleansing and recharging as you are intuitively guided.
Cleansing your crystals
First of all, using detergent for cleansing is a no, no. Salt cleansing methods can also be too abrasive to crystals and may damage their surface.
If you live near the water, you can bathe your stones in the ocean’s salt water, place your crystals under running stream water, in river water or even under running cold tap water which will do the trick if need a quick cleanse, always allowing your crystals to air dry. You can also leave your crystals out in the rain and let mother nature do her thing. When using water methods for cleansing, please be aware that many stones are water sensitive, particularly the ones with names ending in ‘ite’).
Burying your beauties in a bowl of (dry) brown rice for 24 hours works wonders. once finished, be sure to throw out the brown rice as the rice will have absorbed the unwanted energies you have just cleansed your crystals of.
Using Native American traditions, you can burn white sage which is very effective for both crystal and jewellery cleansing. You do this by lighting a piece of sage, extinguishing the flame and in the left over billowing white smoke, pass your crystal or piece of jewellery through it. Watch your fingers and always burn sage in a well ventilated area, free of fire hazards.
Using other crystals
If you own a natural cleansing crystal cluster such as quartz or amethyst, you can place your crystal directly onto the cluster, leaving it to sit for 24 hours to cleanse. Even though these types of cluster crystals are natural cleansers, I find they also benefit from a cleanse and recharge from time to time.
Using sound and vibration, you can cleanse your crystals using a singing bowl, with Tibetan Ting Sha bells or by ringing your favourite sounding bell over your crystal.
Always remember it is so important to use focused intention for which ever method you use for cleansing.
Recharging your crystals
Once your crystal is cleansed and ready to be recharged, simply place your crystals outside in the light of the full moon (overnight if possible). You can also use sunlight to recharge your crystals. Please note that some stones are not only water sensitive but light and heat sensitive eg. fluorite, amethyst and rose quartz in which their beautiful colours are likely to fade. Placing your crystal in a thunderstorm will provide a strong and powerful electromagnetic charge.
Using these methods will ensure you get the most out of your precious gifts from the earth and that they last a lifetime.
With love, light & laughter,
